Mantou, also known as the steamed bun, is originating in China. In northern Chinese cuisine, there is nothing more basic and classic than this kind of steamed bun made with milled wheat flour, water, and leavening agents. If you want to have a try to make Mantou, just a few simple steps can work:
1. Activate the yeast in the warm water; add the yeast, flour, water, salt and sugar in a stand mixer to combine them well; keep kneading for 20 mins until the dough smooth, soft and non-sticky; let the dough rest for 45-60 mins.
2. Cut the dough into 2 halves and roll them as logs, then cut each log into 4 pieces and roll them as small round/square shapes; let them rest for 30 mins.
3. Finally, steam the dough for 15-20 mins.
